Ekta for her friends or as you may know her from Instagram, ektxx chose diversity and inclusion as theme for her sneaker custom because it is something she will always be very passionate about. Representation matters. Period.

I’ve loved art since forever. It started with drawing cartoons and creating comic strips at home as a kid. After improving my skills throughout my whole life, I started my own art business by request of several of my friends who wanted to buy from me. I love showing the world how I see it.
I love working with paints usually. Oil paints are amazing because they feel like painting with butter. For sneakers, I use leather acrylic paint. I mix a fabric medium for painting on cloth and denim.
I decided to participate in the competition because I wanted the opportunity to showcase my talent in front of people. Usually when I do art, it’s by myself in my own little world. I loved stepping out of my comfort zone for others to witness the process. If I wasn’t an artist in the competition, I would’ve 100% attended the event just to watch because it was so cool!

When I think of diversity, I ask myself what my ideal superhero team would look like. Rather than everyone having the same superpower, I’d prefer people of different backgrounds, strengths and powers. So when we all unite as a team, we’ll be undefeatable.
The puzzle pieces represent this on the front and back of the shoe. The fists symbolize the unity that the protests fought for. On one side is Kobe, and Gianna on the other.
Mamba mentality is something that I try to live up to every day and has gotten me through this pandemic. I know it has left a positive impact on millions of others as well.
Gianna Bryant had to be on there because of how many young WOMEN she influenced to reach their dreams and even go beyond them. Long live the legends.

During the sneaker customizing competition we used Tarrago Sneaker Paint. I believe the Starter Kit's colors mix well and apply to the surface very nicely upon the first coat.
I’m so grateful for all the talented artists I met and this opportunity. One of the event speakers offered to buy my shoe immediately after the competition ended. I got free quality paints and brushes!
